Political event photography · Documentary coverageJanuary 25, 2018Keisha Lance Bottoms for Mayor | Private Political Reception
Project: Private political event
Location: Reed Smith, Washington, DC
Discipline: Event & Documentary Photography
-
I photographed a private reception in Washington, DC, held in honor of Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. My job was to document the event, the guests, and the evening's important moments.
-
The assignment was straightforward: arrive and document the event. Yet I aimed for more, hoping my images would weave a story rather than simply record a guest list.
I looked beyond the formalities, focusing on embraces, candid reactions, warm greetings, and the lively conversations that unfolded throughout the evening.
Rather than directing the room, I followed its natural rhythm, moving between the larger gathering and the smaller, more personal moments.
My goal was to infuse the photographs with something a typical event record rarely offers: the genuine feeling of being present in that moment.
-
Event photography documenting the reception, including photographs of attendees, guest interactions, and key moments throughout the gathering.
-
The result is a visual narrative of the Washington reception, capturing not only the people but also the atmosphere that defined the occasion.
This assignment showcases my skill in photographing political and professional gatherings, where discretion, sharp awareness, and swift instincts are essential.
